Modes - Hardware operation is always the same except for the 32 or
96 energy level step modes. Data reduction is performed since the
experiment produces too much data to be transmitted. There are
five groups of Data Modes:
-
Minimum Modes (Min) = 3
- Minimum spectra only (Mspo) - 15 max. sets of 2 masses with
32 energy levels each (2*32 values per set)
- Minimum selected ion species (Msis) - 5 max. sets of 6 masses
with 96 energy levels each (6*96 values per set)
- Minimum energy-mass matrix (Mexm) - 5 max. sets of 32 mass-bins
with 96 energy levels each (32*96 values per set)
-
Normal Modes (Nrm) = 8 (Nrm-0 through Nrm-7)
The energy deflection is stepped through all 96 steps for each of
the 16 entrance steps.
-
Burst High angular resolution Modes (Har) = 8 (Har-0 through Har-7)
The energy deflection is stepped through all 96 steps for each of
the 16 entrance steps.
-
Burst Energy-mass matrix Modes (Exm) = 8 (Exm-0 through Exm-7)
The energy deflection is stepped through all 96 steps for each of
the 16 entrance steps.
-
Special Modes = 4
Typically used for ground testing and calibration, but may be used in orbit.
- Test - H/W close information and Imager snapshot
- Cal1 - HV information and one Imager in 16-bit uncompressed words
- Cal2 - HV information and 96 Imagers (one per energy level)
in compressed 8-bit words
- Fake - Incremental (by one) 16-bit counter in 16-bit uncompressed words
